2001 ECIRS CHAMPION
 #399
Karl Ellwein

ECIRS Creator Karl Ellwein drives his 95 DGGM Impala SS at ECIRS events.  Along with Series Director, Jon Thorn, Karl helps to organize the racing season.  In Y-2000 he was the Champion of 3 events and finished 2nd in the standings behind Mike Trusinski.  In Y-2001, he was Champion of 3 events once again, but this time finished 1st in the season standings just ahead of Bryan Herter...  Winning the season ending race at Englishtown in 2001 was key to taking the championship due to the double points awarded. In 2002, he was Champion of 2 events but did not participate in the point championship, (2002 Champ Stone would have won by a landslide even if Karl had tallied points).  In 2003 he made a good effort toward the Championship by winning the FASTCHIP Drag Day at MIR and ending up in 3rd place for season points, being out gunned by Fred Gramby (2 rounds) and Jeff Diener (1 round).

When Karl is not racing at an ECIRS event, he can be found bracket racing at Maryland Int'l Raceway where he earned the right to race in the "Grand Champion Runoff" during the 1999, 2001 and 2002 seasons.
